Our First Fundraising Activity

Friday 29th November 2012 - Bake Sale

This was our first fundraising activity which took place in our school hall (Nonsuch High School). The day before, the whole team got together and went to my place after school to start baking. We were planning on making all sorts of things: cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pancakes, waffles, milkshakes, bracelets. We even thought of selling tacos and burritos. Of course, when we came to baking it all, there was no way we could make all the things we had planned to so we cut half of it down to selling ice cream waffles, 5 types of cupcakes, brownies, doughnuts and bracelets.

When we were shopping, someone *cough* Saara, Viuna, Grace, LiAnn, Shivani, EVERYONE *cough* decided we should split up, half of us going to Sainsbury's and half going to Waitrose. Which was a big mistake. In the end, we were literally screeching down our phones trying to figure out where we were getting the best deals. It kind of worked, but when we were finishing, we needed something from Sainsbury's (LiAnn, Viuna and Shivani were with me at Waitrose) but when we called them, they were already at Waitrose with us.
The baking was probably worse though. The kitchen was crammed with 6 teenage girls cooking - or at least trying to cook. I ended up having absolutely nothing to work with, such as cupcake trays or a scale (I broke it, OK. Don't blame me!). Plus, there was a lack of mixing bowls. But we managed somehow. But afterwards, the cleaning up was a nightmare! The sink had overflown with bowls and spoons; there was icing all over the counters; I couldn't find the correct lid for any of the plastic containers!

On the day, I managed to carry 6 big bags full of food to school with no help because I'm as strong as superman. Ok, not really - but I'm close! We sold all of our waffles which was a hit but in the end, we still had some leftovers and were unsuccessful to sell all of our cakes or bracelets.

On the plus side, we raised over £60. We hope to soon increase that to over £600!
